Anti Vietnam War Demonstration at the Pentagon in October of 1967 Photo by Dennis Brack B 4
Vietnam War demonstration at the Pentagon. Everyone knew that this was going to be a big nasty day. The day started out on the Washington, DC mall. Lots of shouting, banners, and angry gestures towards the White House. The group gathered and marched to the West, actually right over the space that the ground that the Vietnam War Memorial would be built years later. The march went over the Memorial Bridge and East toward the Pentagon. The troops were waiting. The shouting increased and the soldiers exercised an extremely tolerant degree of restraint. A large group made it right up to the West doors of the building. The troops just stood there guarding the top steps. Everything was going peacefully until suddenly the troops began to move to clear the stairs. Very ugly. They must have received some order because they all moved in unison under the command of a shouted order. Photograph by Dennis Brack
